Why the G63 Costs What It Does to Service
The G-Wagon wears a luxury SUV badge, but underneath it is closer to a hand-built performance machine. The M177 4.0-litre biturbo V8 is the same engine family found across the AMG range, and it is built to AMG tolerances rather than ordinary mass-market ones. That has a direct effect on service costs.
A few things push the price up compared with a regular GLE or GLC:
- AMG-specific oil and volume. The V8 holds a large amount of premium low-viscosity oil, and AMG specifies particular grades. More litres of the right oil costs more than a four-cylinder's fill.
- Ladder-frame, body-on-frame construction. Three locking differentials, a transfer case and a separate chassis mean more driveline fluids and more inspection points than a unibody SUV.
- Heat and dust. Dubai's climate is hard on oil, brake fluid, coolant and the battery. Fluids degrade faster here than in temperate markets, so intervals matter more.
- Genuine parts pricing. G-Class filters, plugs and brake components are not cheap, and AMG variants carry a premium over standard Mercedes parts.
None of this is a reason to panic. It is simply the cost of a heavy, powerful, properly engineered vehicle. Knowing what you are paying for is the point of this guide. For the full picture on the marque, see our Mercedes service in Dubai overview.
What an A Service and B Service Include
Mercedes uses an alternating Service A / Service B schedule, typically every 12 months or around 10,000 km in UAE conditions, whichever comes first. The car's display tells you which one is due.
Service A (the lighter, in-between service) generally covers:
- Full synthetic engine oil and oil filter change to AMG spec
- Fluid level checks and top-ups (coolant, brake, washer)
- Tyre condition and pressure check
- Multi-point inspection and a diagnostic software scan
Service B (the larger service) adds:
- Cabin/dust and pollen filter replacement
- Brake fluid renewal, which Mercedes specifies roughly every two years regardless of mileage
- A more thorough inspection of brakes, suspension, driveline and underbody
Beyond the A/B cycle, the G63 has longer-interval items you should budget for: spark plugs on the M177 (broadly in the 80,000–90,000 km range, sooner on tuned cars), air filters, transmission and transfer-case fluid, and differential oils. A good independent will flag these before they are overdue. You can see how we structure this on our car servicing and maintenance page.
Indicative Costs in the UAE
Exact figures depend on which service is due, the model year, the car's condition and which parts are involved, so treat the following as a guide only. As a rough market range in Dubai:
- Minor / A service: roughly AED 1,500–2,500
- Major / B service: roughly AED 3,500–6,500, depending on the additional items due
- Spark plug replacement (all eight, when due): a notable one-off, varies with parts and labour
- Brake pads (per axle, when worn): roughly AED 2,000–3,000, more if discs are also due
Brakes deserve a special mention on the G63. It is a heavy vehicle with serious performance, and the front pads in particular work hard. Replacing them on time protects the discs and keeps stopping power consistent in city heat. More on that on our brakes page.
These ranges reflect the wider UAE market, not a fixed price list. No one can quote a G63 accurately without knowing the service due and inspecting the car.
Getting an Accurate Quote
The difference between a fair G63 bill and an inflated one usually comes down to two things: using the correct AMG-spec parts and fluids, and only doing the work that is genuinely due. A specialist who knows the W463A platform will tell you what can wait and what cannot, in plain terms.
If you want a precise figure for your car, send us the model year, current mileage and the service indicator reading. We will give you an exact, itemised quote with no surprises, and we will only recommend what your G63 actually needs.
